Zero grid connection. By design, not by exception.

Off Grid

Every Volition site generates 100% of its own power on-site from natural gas. No utility interconnection. No grid backup. No diesel. The facility is electrically independent at every point — which means no interconnection queue, no curtailment exposure, and no dependence on a transmission system that was never built for concentrated AI load.

This works because we anchor compute to the most reliable energy network in the country. The U.S. natural gas system spans 2.6 million miles of pipeline and delivers on firm contracts with 99.79% reliability — roughly a 650-fold reliability advantage over grid distribution. It’s predominantly underground and shielded from the weather that takes down overhead lines, and most compressor stations run on the gas they move, so the system powers itself when the grid goes dark. The grid, meanwhile, is moving the other way: U.S. customers averaged 611 minutes of outage in 2024, nearly triple the figure a decade earlier. For workloads that demand five-nines, on-site generation removes the dependency entirely.

Solid oxide fuel cells

Solid oxide fuel cells convert natural gas directly to electricity through an electrochemical process — no combustion, no rotating parts, and fewer failure modes as a result. A modular, fault-tolerant design deployed N+1 means no single unit is a point of failure, with field availability around 99.99% and electrical efficiency of 60% or better. Emissions of NOx, SOx, and particulates are near-zero, and operation is quiet enough to sit adjacent to the building. The array is both primary power and its own redundancy.

Linear generators

Linear generators produce electricity from a flameless, low-temperature reaction with only two moving parts and no oil requirement — meaning low maintenance and high uptime. Their defining advantage is fuel flexibility: they run on natural gas today and can switch to biogas, hydrogen, propane, or ammonia without hardware changes, future-proofing the site against where fuel and policy go next.

AI-native power strategy

Our generation system engineered around the continuous, high-density load that AI factories actually place on a site, rather than utility power adapted after the fact. And it’s proven: on-site fuel cells already serve as primary power for some of the most demanding compute operators in production. Off-grid generation works at scale, under real AI load. We’ve built our entire model around it.
