The interconnection system has stopped working for AI. Operators applying for grid power today face three-to-seven-year queues with no guarantee of approval — and many applications are denied after years of waiting. Goldman Sachs projects data center power demand will grow 50–165% by 2030; in Northern Virginia alone, demand is set to climb from 4,000 MW to 15,000 MW, approaching half the state’s entire electrical load. The transmission system wasn’t built for this, and rebuilding it will take decades. End to end, grid-dependent projects run five to ten years from application to operational power.

The result is first capacity online in 12–14 months from a complete contract, with each site engineered to scale into hundreds of megawatts of phased, sovereign deployments — faster than the industry’s behind-the-meter norm, and a different category entirely from the grid.
Speed is also a closing window. As the transition accelerates, equipment slots, firm pipeline capacity, and experienced engineering partners are being claimed by early movers. Building now is a structural advantage, not just a faster schedule.
